what kind of INCENTIVEs

are we talking about?

Illinois offers one of the best solar incentive programs in the nation. Its first solar incentive program had such a huge impact, Illinois updated it and passed one of the most comprehensive energy bills in the country. Now you can reap the benefits. Pair the Illinois incentive with the Federal ITC & you could see more than 50% of the cost credited back to you.

It may feel like a lot of paperwork, but we have you covered! Sun Badger is an approved Illinois Shines vendor & with our extensive experience working within these programs, we take out all the guesswork. That means you get to your savings faster!

incentives at the federal level
Let’s start with the easiest of all the incentives you can take advantage of when you go solar. The Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC) is a diminishing Federal incentive to help homeowners go solar. What does that mean for you? The sooner you go solar the more you’ll get back in a tax credit so don’t sit on this benefit.

incentives at the state level
Illinois passed legislation to require a certain amount of renewable energy jobs & usage by a set target date. It starts with giving money away to you the homeowner. This is a proven tactic. With the increase in solar demand in Illinois, Sun Badger established its office in Arlington Heights, hiring electricians, installers, and other technical staff and is now a top solar installer in the state.

incentives at the local level
And the very cherry on top is that some lucky Illinois residents will also see additional incentives from their local utility. These may be found in the form of rebates or more commonly, net-metering. Talk to a Sun Badger Solar Expert now to see if there is a program available to you.

They exceeded our expectations!

“We are so happy with the installation of our solar panels from Sun Badger Solar! Their installers were careful and respectful of our property. And, we’ve been thrilled with the results! After less than 6 months, our utility lowered our monthly payment by $75.00 and sent us a check for over $600! It’s been a great investment and we feel good about protecting the planet for our grandchildren.”

When you buy & install solar now through the end of 2022 you can qualify for the 26% federal solar tax credit. Starting in 2023 that incentive drops to 22%. Beginning in 2024, there will be no credit. So now’s the time to get the most money back. This credit is as simple as it gets.

Approximate typical system cost in Illinois: $22,176

Illinois srecs

Illinois Shines Program is the branded name for the Adjustable Block Program (ABP) where you can cash in on SRECs or RECs (Renewable Energy Credits). Now where’s the money?

When your solar array is up and producing energy, the ABP provides payments in exchange for 15 years of RECs. That means you’ll get all 15 years of credits at once, like a warp speed customer rebate.

The best part? Sun Badger Solar is an Approved Vendor, which means we know RECs inside and out & we handle the hard stuff for you. And if anything changes, you don’t have to worry about it – we’re on it already.

local utility incentives

Your local utility company may offer their own version of incentives as well. We take this into consideration when quoting your project so you have all information at your fingertips when you decide to go solar.

The most common version of what you might see at the local level is called net-metering. Simply put: the net-metering program allows you to sell extra energy that your solar system produces back to the power grid so it can be used by others around you. Even better? Sometimes they’ll pay you to do it.

frequently asked

questions

How do I claim my tax credits?
By working with Sun Badger Solar — an Approved ABP Vendor — you’ve taken the first step in a very easy process. We’re able to file all the paperwork on your behalf and monitor the process on the back end. Earning Federal ITC credit is even easier: just save all of your paperwork to reference when you file your taxes this year & that’s it.*

Will the Federal ITC ever increase again?
The renewable energy field is always new & evolving, so there’s no telling what the future may hold. We know when the credits will drop right now, we know what legislature is being worked on right now, & we are constantly monitoring what local utilities are putting into play. If or when the Federal ITC credit changes, Sun Badger is on top of it all.

What if I wait until the end of the year to sign my contract & my build starts in 2023?
By waiting to go solar you have the potential to push your installation date to the next year & that means your Federal ITC credit drops to 22%. That 4% could mean hundreds or thousands of dollars. Not to mention the longer you wait the less savings you’ll rack up right away.
